San Cristóbal de las Casas, 1992 is part of a series of large-scale graphite drawings, which depicted some of the most dramatic examples of iconoclastic destruction. The drawings highlighted the long history and international scope of image breaking and feature significant examples of religious, cultural, and political destruction.
The drawing depicts an indigenous group toppling a statue of the Spanish conquistador Diego de Mazariegos on the 500th-anniversary celebration of Columbus Day.
